Over the course of more than 30 years as a therapist and counselor, I have learned three valuable lessons about humans and pain.
- Emotional pain and physical pain are connected – very rarely do you have one without the other.
- Pain (both emotional and physical) steals time and energy away from the important things in life.
- Effective, holistic counseling can free your body and your mind to embrace life and the people around you with renewed joy.
People come to me weary…drained….desperate for life to be different. Through psychotherapy, I help them discover and understand the mental and physical messages their bodies are sending, and the ways they have developed to cope with those messages. More importantly, I help them learn more effective ways to manage their emotions and life.
I won’t go on and on about the psychotherapy techniques I use (although you can learn more in my biography if you would like). I apply the right techniques based on the person and on the circumstances. But I will tell you this: you can’t fix emotional pain without acknowledging and understanding the body’s defenses against it. And pharmaceuticals will not eliminate all physical pain, because sometimes physical pain comes from the mind. Learn more about this connection here.
